The same admission criteria apply worldwide. To ensure admission requirements are the same for everyone, all applications for membership are considered by the Committee on Admissions and Language Classification (CACL), which is elected by the General Assembly for a three-year term. If the application is successful, the conference interpreter becomes a member of AIIC international. If his professional domicile is in Switzerland, he automatically becomes a member of the Swiss region.

Admission criteria

Qualification as a conference interpreter and a certain level of experience are prerequisites for full AIIC membership. The applicant must be able to demonstrate 150 days of work covering all working languages. Furthermore a number of existing members must vouch for the candidate’s qualifications and professional approach by signing the application form. The number of signatures required depends on the working languages applied for.

As a first step to membership, applicants may take the status of pre-candidate for up to three years as a kind of running-in period. To become a pre-candidate the applicant needs three signatures from AIIC members who confirm that he works as a conference interpreter.

Dues and fees

The amount of dues is set by the Ordinary Assembly, it is currently CHF 605 per year (2023). The administrative cost for membership applications is CHF 150 for full membership and CHF 50 for pre-candidacy.
