This two-day online course will give you all the tools to be able to successfully interpret consecutively for any audience, for any length of time, comfortably and with confidence.
What you will learn: On the first day, we will start by understanding the thinking underlying any interpretation, and how it can help you to follow any speech. On the second day, we will move to all that goes specifically into consecutive interpreting. By the end of the course, you will be able to interpret increasingly lengthy interventions using memory, analysis, and notes.
Course format: The course includes lecture, demonstrations and some exercises, small group work, and practice. Training is in English, and is not language-specific. Practicing interpreters who wish to improve their consecutive interpreting skills, as well as graduates from interpreting courses at any university or training center.
Schedule: 10:00-12:00 / 14:00-16:00 Central European Time (Geneva)
This workshop is scheduled at a time meant to facilitate participation from time zones covering Asia Pacific, Europe and Africa. If you prefer to attend later in the day, you may wish to register for the Smart Consecutive Workshop #2 on 16-17 December.

About the instructor:
Julia Poger, M.A.C.I. (MIIS); ATA, AIIC, received her M.A. in the Conference Interpretation of English, Russian, and French from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in California in 1987, and has worked as a freelance conference interpreter ever since. Washington, D.C. was her home for ten years, where she interpreted consecutively at bilateral meetings with Heads of State and Department Secretaries (Ministers), as well as for meetings in the Departments of Energy, Justice, Defense, and Commerce, and the U.S. Trade Representative’s office, as well as during treaty negotiations. She has also interpreted consecutively at court proceedings and depositions. Private clients and international organizations working in the areas of finance, development, the environment, oil and gas, and nuclear energy, waste and warhead disposal have also hired Ms. Poger to interpret consecutively at meetings and negotiations. She now lives in Europe, where she trains student and practicing interpreters in the magic of long consecutive. Ms. Poger is a member of the International Association of Conference Interpreters, and the American Translators Association, and is a Course Director at the Cambridge Conference Interpretation Course. She is continually working to extend the amount of time she can listen to and note a speech before suffering memory failure.
